Synopsis

In the eighties, La Herradura beach was destroyed. In the nineties, the wave of Cabo Blanco was affected, after being in danger of disappearing. A group of surfers organized to protect the places that gave them so much happiness. Thus, in 2000, they got the Peruvian State to approve the Rompientes Law, the first law in the world for wave protection. Thirteen years of negotiations were necessary to achieve its regulation and create the National Registry of Rompientes (Renaro).

In 2015, the HAZla por tu Ola citizen campaign was born, to raise the necessary funds for the preparation of the technical files required by the Navy and to register each of the waves in the Renaro. Thousands of people have joined this campaign, ensuring that 24 waves are already legally protected. This is the story of that call to collective action.
